Got this bike about a year ago and finally got time to take her apart. The plan is to keep it stock with OEM parts. It won't be a short term project. Hope to have it done by spring 2013.

Here she is just after I got it. Looks good from 20ft. Attempted to start it and ran on only the left cylinder. Corrected the stuck float valve on the right and it ran. Not good, but it ran :D

After about 2 hours of pulling & categorizing parts. Hope to have it down to the frame soon.

Carburetors were cleaned by the PO. The fuel tank is very corroded & rusted through in several places underneath, not sure I'll be able to save it.

Exhaust are OEM NOS by the PO

I like Candy Blue, but Candy Ruby Red is the color of the '71 CB175 I had. We'll see which color wins out.

Questions...
- what brand of engine gasket sets are recommended and which one(s) should I stay away from?
- I assume the engine was painted Honda Cloud Silver?
- where can I get a set of OEM tires (size and manufacturer)

Thanks!

I was once again sent an email notice from Photobucket indicating a monthly charge. I’m not subscribing to Photobucket. Your welcome to copy the photos for your personal use, but not for profit.

Thanks for your continued interest.

Apologize for not staying current.
My Photobucket account is due to run out sometime this month. As many others; I refuse to pay the almost $400/yr. I’m not seeking any financial help. Just wished to thank everyone for their interest & comments. Feel free to copy the photos for your personal use, and not for financial gains.

Thanks again & best regards,
Ray

Edit & Update - received an invoice from Photobucket with no increase. So, it appears the photos will still come through for another year.

Ray, really nice job on the 175 - I got here in late 2016 and didn't see your thread until today. Excellent work, hope you have the pictures stored locally so you won't lose them.

Great thread! Love it.
I got a CB 125 k5, which is almost the same as the cb175. Just wondering how you got the valves out of the cylinder head? As I recall the valves of the CB 175 are also in the middle of the cylinder just like my CB 125 k5 model.
Can't seem to find info on this, so hoping anyone could help me with this.

My CB175 K6 is now at he refit stage. I have followed your pics and found your restoration a real help and inspiration. Mine is a poor copy of yours but as my first attempt I am very pleased with the result and its down to your thread and your pics so thank you.

Ray, your restoration project should be available to purchase online in pictorial booklet form as alongside the manual it would be as invaluable to others as it has been to me. If you ever decided to edit your blog and create a booklet I am sure it would do well.

Anyway your work is excellent so well done and a big thank you.
Charles

Sorry for the delayed response.

Thanks for your interest & comments. I'll be back in the shop later this month. Hope to finish the cafe' by summer.
Some will think this is a bit strange, but I'm accruing parts for another '71 CB175.

Have a safe & enjoyable New Year!

Wow!! I stumbled on this thread through a Google Image search for CB175 tappet covers. What a great and thorough job! I'm doing a 1973 CB175K7 restoration of my own. I'll be using this thread as a reference too. I'm just about ready to put the motor back into the frame.

Well would you look at that - the brake pedal/centerstand pivot rod on my bike is installed backwards - must go fix now!

Maybe I should go through this thread again and check my bike against it - I'm finding all kinds of goofy things.

Thanks guys. I really had a great time doing this bike.

phil71, the jugs & head were painted, same paint as the engine covers (Duplicolor Silver Ceramic Caliper Paint)

bikas, got your PM, please see my response - Good luck!

You DID do an amazing job on that bike. Pristine in every detail. Kudos to you.

Thanks, the rims were purchased on Ebay. Good luck on your project!

EDIT - rims were from CMSNL.com, they were the "alternative" DID, not NOS/OEM

Ray,

Good to meet you this weekend. Thanks for the link to this thread. I just finished reading all 16 pages in their entirety. I should probably get something done at work now before starting the 350 and Miata threads :)

You've given me some food for thought. I am tempted to hang onto one of the project bikes and taking it up after the HD is finished...
