Hey Man, I really love your bike! I think I've read through your build thread a dozen times! I know you posted a video on checking your cam chain adjustment, and I really love it. You make it super easy to understand and figure out. I was wondering if you have any input on doing a valve adjustment? I'm trying to set my valves, and I can't quite seem to figure out where to start. I watched the cam chain adjustment and it seems like similar setup, going 90 degress past TDC, but I'm really at a loss. Do you by any chance have any input or video that might help? I know this is a long shot, but I figured I already like your other video so I might as well ask. Anyways, I appreciate it, and Great job on your bike! It's one of my favorites! (I set it as my background on my computer for a while!)

thanks agian,

Calder

Cool! Appreciate the really kind words! Very flattered you used it as a wallpaper - that's top notch, man! :D

I don't have any videos on valve adjustments for the twin but if you google it, there is a ton of info out there. I intend on fully rebuilding the engine over the winter and when I do I was planning on creating a few videos that cover many topics including valve and timing adjustments.

I was also going to cover carb cleaning, some cam chain stuff, pamco install (if I can ever get my hands on one since Pete won't get back to me) and just the full tear down and reassembly of the motor - torque settings etc..

Sorry, that I don't have anything to help you out right now but there have been many topics on the subject and I'm sure you can figure it all out. Read a few different ones and you get to understand it without issue. I'm sure of it.

Just be sure you're careful. It isn't the same as the 90 p.t.d.c. method as you have to set one cylinder at a time at the top of the compression stroke (both valves shut). There are marking on the rotor to help line you up. Adjustment screws are under the points cover for the left cylinder and under the tach cover for the right.

Cheers!
Thanks again!

Curious about those side cover badges, what did you use to get them to shine like that
Hmmmmm Not really sure what you mean by that.

If you are asking why do they look new and unfaded than you'll find the answer on page 1 of this build thread :D  and it was a pretty large task.

If you are asking how I keep them clean and so shiny the answer there is that I do nothing special. Just the usual cleaning we all do.

Yes in regarding the pics on the first page. Did you use some kind of paint stripper to soak them in. The chrome boarders on mine have some oxidation on them.

I picked up a couple of shorty's (12 muffler) like yours. What did you do to adapt them? Mine came with no adapters and the shorty pipe is larger diameter than my sl350 k1 headers. Also, what did you do to support the muffler weight?

No, didn't use any chemicals for cleaning. I just used some Never Dull to wipe down the heavy pitting (perhaps mine were in better condition to begin with?) and gently "scraped"/pulled away the old paint that was flaking off using fine scrapers/dentist picks. Once completely stripped, I re-painted.

Hope that helps.

Interesting. I've heard of this before but personally never had any issue with that. I got lucky, mine were tight. Mine also came with stabilizers attached. Yours did not? Weird. Not sure what to say for that bit.

The first issue is easy. I know for sure that Dime City Cycles sells the reducers you'll need to get that tight fit to your header. Bummer they didn't come with all that. As far as the stabilizers go, I really don't know what the deal is there if yours don't have them. Mine are just swung around onto the opposite side (so less visible) and bolted to the old rear frame/peg bracket.

Works great! After the engine rebuild however, I've been considering removing the shortys and going straight pipe with inserts. We'll see but pretty sure I'll be going that route.

Cheers and good luck!

Awesome Thread! Great looking and tastefully customized 350. I really appreciate it when someone can make a bike look so good with custom touches yet still retain the ability (and keep the parts stashed away) to bring it back to stock. Nicely done! I dig yer style, Dude!!

Great looking bike you got here. Did you put a muffler tape or sealer when you attached that shorty muffler to your header? or did it go on with no leak. I just got those shortys too and there is a little play in there, not sure if that would be trouble.

They need to be a very snug fit, might use muffler sealer from an auto parts store.
