Move the plants.................dry the wheels.
Image

Get it setup and visualize what's to come! :D

While the tires get mounted and wheels get balanced, make up some plugs for the triple to fill the holes where the old handle bar mounts once were.
Image

Wheels back.........quickly installed and soooooooo close to being done for a while. Had to stop a hair short of completion to pick up the kids again.

Will finish and ride tomorrow.

Here's how it looks for now. Needs a good wipe down. There are greasy fingerprints all over the place.

So close.

I think it looks great all blacked out and lowered...... IMO at least :)

Another angle.

Well, as I said, back at it.

Got the final little things done as well as install the tail light today. Here's how she looks now.......

Threw the plate on and off I went for a 1 hour rip and shakedown.

Unfortunately, not without at least SOME interuption.....

Bike runs awesome! Pretty stoked. That fork is so much nicer now that it actually functions as it was meant to and actually had good oil in both legs (as opposed to half water in one and NO oil in the other  )

Still loads to do on this build but not right now. I'm gonna run it a while.

Anyone know where I can get a shorter front brake cable that won't cost me 100 bucks or more? Any other stuff out there compatible with it?

Cheers.

For the road - a random artsy shot during some work on the front end.

I know pretty well everything I say is covered in this thread but, wanted to add it here too anyway to keep it current. Will be painting the tank shortly. Really struggling with colour right now.

p.s. Now I can't embed Youtube vids? Man! I've never had this much trouble. WTH am I doing wrong?

Two questions.

What size tires are on your bike?

Also, how did you polish you hubs? Also, did you clear coat?
Hey!! You said 2 questions!!

Hahaha just kidding.

TIRES: Front is 100/90 18
Rear is 110/90 18

As far as the buffing goes, that was a huge pain! Took a while.....

Installed an 8" spiral sewn buffing wheel onto a bench grinder. I put some buffing compound onto the wheel and went at it. I had the best luck starting with the brown blocks and finishing with the white compound blocks.

I also purchased some smaller wheels and ends in a bunch of different shapes and sizes to work with a variable speed drill I have and very small bits to work with my Dremel tool for the really hard to reach spots.

I always started with the brown (or "rouge" I think they call it) block and finished up with the white. The bench grinder was awesome for the initial heavy stuff and the drill proved to be fantastic for most of the rest. It just took a really long time.

I'm no buffing expert but I did learn a lot throughout the process like "cutting" when against the wheel and "smooth" with the wheel. There is some technique to it all - getting it even. Loads of on-line tips and stuff to look up.

May be some better compounds out there that would have made it easier but I don't know. These all turned out nice so I'm happy enough. Did the fork legs too and they went really well and took no time at all. I had it mastered by that point

Didn't clear coat. I'll try and keep up with cleaning them.

Here we go again........ :D

Tearing into it again. Bunch more small jobs. I was supposed to pull the motor and replace all the gaskets (oil leak) but when I pulled the tank off I tried the top nuts out of curiosity and NONE were torqued to spec...........Here's hopin'!!!! I'd be stoked if that cured that problem

Anyway........

-New throttle cable (now complete)
-New front brake cable/shoes (now complete)
-New rear brake shoes
-New headlight ring
-New chain and sprockets (sprocket will be blacked out)
-New mini speedo (won't be using tach anymore)
-Building new dash with mini LED indicators (for neutral and turn signal markers).
-Shortened speedo cable due to lower controls
-Gas tank painted in Dark Graphite Silver (will be adding striping as well but not sure on design yet)
-New CNC machined gas cap and latch from Joker Machine
-Clean up some more wiring
-New NGK resistor caps to install
-Overhaul and clean air boxes

There's more, but, I forget

Tank's now primed and ready for sanding...........start painting on Monday I think.

I just edited your post to embed the video but its saying its a private video :(
I truly appreciate the attempt HerrDeacon but that is exactly the issue. I am able to embed "a" Vimeo video, however this site ALWAYS defaults back to my old "Rust and Glory" video which I have since removed from public viewing. I don't get it. :?

I edited the post above back to the link again. If you click that link you'll see it is of the most recent ride video I did ("The CB Project Continues") which is open to public viewing. Try to embed THAT video and it diverts back to "Rust and Glory."

Site code issue I assume. Beyond me :D

Cheers,
Thanks for the help.

Slow going due to Holidays but I'm hoping to get this done over the weekend.

Base coat has been shot (Graphite Silver) and is now ready for a wet sand. I wish I didn't have to wet sand but it's been several days so the paint has hardened. I need to get something there for the next coat to hold onto.

Will wet sand and then mask the design. Shoot the black design, wet sand again where the two colours meet to knock down the ridge and then clear coat it. I hope I can get this done over the weekend as I'm tired of working the tank now. I really want to move on.

Finally got my new CNC machined cap and latch in the mail from Joker.

Should tie in nicely I think. I hope it looks good and goes together without issues..................I hope :?

It'll dress up the bike a bit I think :)
