Been looking around at ways to fix my rotting '72 CB350's mufflers - epoxy, jb weld, welding (ha!), etc...
Pretty much, nuttin' is working. My welding skills ain't up to welding such thin stuff.
Has anyone tried using one of the newer H-D mufflers as a replacement? I was reading somewhere that the newer H-D Dyna stock mufflers are pretty restrictive and I was thinkin'....

Maybe a replacement without having to re-jet?

If I can find a set and the price is right, I might try it and even document it for posterity.

Cheers,
Red

I put a pair on my GL500. Didn't have to change anything, they look good (if not stock), and they have a nice sound (IMO).

The best part is Harley folks don't much like mufflers at all and if they have to have them at least they don't want the stock ones so Harley shops end up with piles of nearly new ones. They occasionally show up on local auctions where I picked up 4 of them (that's $1400 retail from Harley Davidson) for a grand total of $20. Of course at that price I'd like them if they sounded like a card and clothespin on a bicycle spoke.

I had a pair of Screamin Eagle bullet style mufflers from a sportster on my CX500 and they seemed to work ok. They sounded great but were difficult to get to seal up to the stock header/h pipe setup since the clamps and the slots in the mufflers did not line up right. They were straight through packs so I lost some MPG and it needed a re jet, little flat spot in the middle of the rpm range and a slight bog off idle.

They did look and sound good. I imagine with a bit more restriction to closer match the flow of the original pipes you would be good. As mentioned above they are dirt cheap. I think I paid $25 for two sets and was given a third as a thanks for helping a fellow CX owner change a broken clutch lever.

Try http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HONDA-CB ... ccessories. SCI has many quality parts for your bike. Although the mufflers are NOT EOM, they are high quality and do not require any special rejetting - just bolt on and ride. Great staff who will fully respond to your questions.. I could not find the mufflers on their home page which is why I sent the ebay link but here is their home page http://www.siriusconinc.com

Those are the same Emgo Dunstalls available at many other sources for less $$$.

Most any change you make to a 350's mufflers could cause the need to rejet.......
