Is it simple to make one of these ?

Thinking of sawing and filing a piece of aluminium plate to make this.

Is there a template anywhere out there ? I know 21mm is the crucial measurement.

Or could I simply use my vernier calipers or a steel rule ? ( to measure the float level)

Cheers,

Richard

Even easier use an old credit card.

There's a template to do just that someplace on this site.

Do a search.

I purchased a float level gauge from K&L supply back in the 90's;it's nice to have it adjustable both for width and height w/ metric 'mm' graduation marks.I also cut a little slot into it on the bottom where it meets the carb bowl mating surface so it sits directly onto the carb. bowl gasket surface to give me the correct reading.I've never used the 'clear tube method' which is probably more accurate but requires different pieces to screw into the carb.bowl drain screw so fuel will flow into a small graduated clear tube.
I bought the clear, graduated tube from the Kawasaki dealer to use to do that 'clear tube method' years ago and still have it in the top drawer of my roll-away wrapped in it's orig. packaging... I guess I'm just into using the float level gauge because it's what I always did and it worked well for me.

Before I take the carbs off I am going to try fitting a piece of clear tube to the carb drains.

That way, I can at least see if both carb fuel levels are set the same. At the moment, it is running rich on the right hand cylinder, so this ought to tell me if that's down to float level or a different issue.

DOH!

The brass spigots on the carb bowls are of course the overflows, not connected to the drain screws. Back to the drawing board ....

The adjustable gage would be nice if you work on a variety of carburetors. I made a gage for my CL350 from an old CD case:

It's crude but effective. I measured with the stick on my calipers and filed the last little bit to get it right on size. The main advantage is that you can measure both floats simultaneously.
