Hello, everybody,
since I'm new here it is time to introduce myself and my bike. This project started spontaneously. In one day I have decide to buy old bike a make a bobber. After looking through listings I found one Honda CM 400(as was advertised) '81. Next day I bring it home and start to examine. First of all I have found that tacho is not connected and there was no place to plug it in. It is my first oldie CM/CB so I decided to study a little bit more about it. After readings about Honda bikes from '70/'80 and checking of model number on the engine I understood that I have CM 400T with CM 450 E '83 engine. So far so good. My idea was to make a good looking and technically proof bobber with minimum investment. As it is not my first restoring/ modifying car/ bike project I was confident in my ability to finish it as soon as possible with most work done by myself. As well I decided to leave the engine untouchable till next time as it was running pretty good. Here are works and modification list that have been done so far:
- dismantled and removed everything
- sandblasted and painted all metal parts,
- redone all wiring(rerouted and rewired, removed unnecessary equipment as tachometer, main panel, brackets)
- installed new head light from Yamaha Virago 1100, new custom turn signals
- relocated ignition lock
- modified exhaust system, removed central resonator under bike, made new silencers brackets
- removed airbox, installed modified cone filters (glued together cone filters with piece of original pipe from airbox)
- installed new jets #90 and #125, with one shim added to needle( but it looks it is not the last setting, as I got some problems with running the bike, check my post here http://www.hondatwins.net/forums/63...pply-carburation/30805-cm-450-e-engine-revs-problem-1-4-till-full-throttle.html)
- made custom electrical box form two coffee boxes, now it looks like oil tank
- made custom leather seat by myself fixed on door hinge and springs
- made custom rear fender
- relocated rear light and number plate
- lowered suspension, front lowered by 3/4'' by, rear by 1 1/2'' (springs were shortened).
Bike bought for 500 USD. More spent on details and accessories 400 USD. Total 900 USD. Not bad for good looking bike. Any questions are welcome.
P.s: sorry for pictures quality as my phone camera have scratched lens.
