I never took these springs apart, but the damper should be there just to provide resistance. Did they work before you took them apart?

You better get those, cause they are probably used on most parts of the bike. The most used wrenches on these bikes are 10, 12, 14, 17 and 19. Maybe somewhere even 8 and 24.
I ussualy dont even use any other wrenches, even on other bikes (except that the 12 is usually 13 and 14 is 15...).
I hope you understand, my english isn't that good...

Normal grease should be allright, but I use some high quality bearing grease for that.
