I wish I could answer that, but I can't.
There's really only one way to find out.
Just try them , they're only $8.
Install them, then static time the beast, then check with a strobe.
If the timing advances to anywhere within the two advance marks, you're golden.

And, by all means, post the results (good or bad) so we can benefit also. Anything that we can learn to help keep these things going, will benefit ALL of us. ;)

I have both XS 650's and a K7. The advance unit springs look very similar and at $8.00 a set give it a go. Were it warm enough to ride here.....(and it's not!), I'd swap the springs and let you know. Buy em, run em. I'd bet $8 that they swap & work fine!

While on that page btw.....Check out that electronic ignition (first item on the page) that Pamcopete supplies MikesXS with. Ain't that a dandy value and don't ya wish we could get something like that to replace the points ignition of a CB 450? Best, Blue

I know this is an old thread, but I am fixing an oil leak in my points base so, since I was going to have the advance mechanism out, I took the opportunity to order these springs. I just checked and it looks like they are a little too long. Very small difference. So I'm not going to put them on. I would guess that, in a pinch, you could make them work by bending them a bit, but I'm not going to try an find out. Mine seem to be working fine. I guess they will go in the random parts box.

I actually don't want to replace the points. I just finished reading the book "One Second After" and it scared the crap out of me. It describes what would happen if the US was attacked with an EMP weapon. Any electronic ignition would be fried, but the points would keep on going. I'd like to keep my bike as a backup escape vehicle. ;)

I'm unsure whether 450 advancers are the same as 360's but I found mikesxs springs a slight improvement on the 35 year old stockers.

Hondaman makes an ignition unit that still uses the stock points but only as a "trigger" so in theory they should last forever. With the Dyna if you goof it up or it burns up soon after your mod, the warranty is no good and you have a $130 paperweight. There are actually several options for an electronic ignition available but all are kinda pricy. I bought 2 NOS Prestolite EI systems on Ebay. They're not on there very often though.

If you Google "CB450 electronic ignition" you'll soon find them.

wouldn't them being under and more or less surrounded by metal have some shielding effect? personally I always wear my tinfoil hat for just that reason (EM pulse)

What I was getting at on the Dyna electonic ignition is the fact that it has to be modified to fit under the 450's point cover and still be timed correctly. That voids the warranty for those that care to have a warranty. Plus if you're not careful when modding it to fit properly, you can screw it up easily and it won't work at all. The Hondaman unit makes the most sense as far as $$$ is concerned and can be easily fitted. It's not an electronic ignition, but makes the points last a long long time by just using them as a trigger.

I have two different sets of PDF instructions on modifying the Dyna EI, and you must remove material from the hall sensors themselves then re-seal them, which would more than likely shorten its lifespan, but no one really knows. Plus you have to remove material from the baseplate and possibly source different buttonhead style bolts to hold it to the points base.

There are lots of alternatives besides the Dyna is what I'm saying, that don't need modded to fit, and work just as well. If you simply must have EI then there are Boretech, and Pazon just to name a couple.. There are others....

If you wanna go "full race" then: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HONDA-CB ... 0231532935

Just trying to help guide others here to their alternatives mate. ;)

I can sell you a very special tin hat that also stops "them" from reading your thoughts

We (the earth) gets bombarde by EM daily (from the sun) and has been known to down electrical grids this normally happens in the poles, something to do with the reindeer antlers
Funny you guys are talking about that. There's a show on the Discovery channel about that right now!

It's a shame that Prestolite quit making EI systems for the 450. I bought 2 NOS units on Ebay. Had to have a back-up..

I think Prestolite got out of the bike game a long time ago? When I saw the two I have pop up on Ebay I just bid until no one tried anymore. All in all I paid about the cost of a Boretech unit for two Prestolite units. I'm sure someday I'll be glad I did though. :|

Now back to the XS650 spring chat.. ;)
