Hi all,

Just wanted to see if anyone has a triple tree upper/fork bridge/the top one of whatever you wanna call it in their stash for CB450K6 (or any of the years for it) - the one on my restore has one side cracked. Figured I'd check with you guys before shelling out for the CNC ones from Dime City :)

Thanks!

Edit: I actually have a spare CB360 triple tree stashed away... anyone have any idea if the top clamp would swap in? I'll measure em up otherwise, next time I'm at the bike.

There are plenty of cheaper, used options on ebay. Just need to spend a couple minutes and search
More like a few years. The late pinch bolt style DOHC CB450 top clamp is a very rare bird.

The custom bike builders wanted, or still, want them because of the way the handlebars mounted on them with risers. You can use a CB 500, 550, 750 top. The difference is in how the handlebars mount on, but it you are not trying to do a 100 point restore it should not matter.

I don't think the CB360 one will work with CB450 forks/front end. During my steering bearing replacement crisis back in late 2017, I bought a cheap CB360 triple tree to see if it would work with my CB450 front end, and the spacing of the tubes did not match up.

Wow, that guy has some stones to ask $400 for it and then want shipping on top of it. Most of his stuff is pretty reasonably priced except for that upper triple clamp and a front brake cable with switch in it, for which he also wants shipping in addition to the $50 purchase price https://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-Honda-OEM-Gray-Front-Brake-Cable-68-69-CB450-69-70-CL450-45450-294-670-1-/122623742238?vxp=mtr&hash=item1c8cf1d11e

Yeesh. That $400 is too steep for me. There’s another listed from a 1967-68 CL450 though - it’s still the pinch style, but looks a little different. Are the earlier years interchangeable? I know it’s gotta be the pinch style, but not sure if the rest is cosmetic or what.

They have that one incorrectly listed - here it is at DSS

Damn. The way it’s pictured makes me think it’s a 360 bridge, it looks similar. I might just have to go the 750 route for now and see if one with rubber bushing mounts turns up eventually. Do you guys think it’ll make that much of a difference in feel?

I can't say for sure... I put new handlebar mount bushings in mine and it's pretty buzzy around 5k to 6k rpm, but the mounts are also pretty firm with the new "cones" in place, no real movement at the bars. Hard to say if eliminating them would be that much worse

The listing is for a pinch style bridge, while the part number he listed seems to be for the taper-style. Though I’d love it if it fit! (...or if one of you guys has a spare :D)

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/173228510282 which shows part number 53230-292-010
So I said:

They have that one incorrectly listed - here it is at DSS by part number

https://www.davidsilverspares.com/CB450K1-SUPER-SPORT-1968---1969/part_206511/
which shows, yes, the correct upper triple clamp by that part number - not the picture the eBay seller showed of pinch-style, I was pointing that out

What is incorrect about the listing? Early CB/CL top clamps were of that design.
So no, nothing with that listing, just using it as an example :D

My bad, ancientdad. I missed post #9 in this thread. It all makes sense to me now.

To Gunnar’s point, can they even be welded? I saw a mention of a successful one on another thread... do you think it’d be worth trying? (@TOOLS especially). I’ve seen a 500 bridge available, but I’d honestly rather try an ugly-but-sturdy weld over having to figure out the gauge mounts.
