I have my 360 apart and these old hondas are notorious for having a weak charging system. As I understand it the life expectancy of a set of field windings is only 10-15 years so I am wondering if it would be worthwhile to rewire my stator. It is still charging and generating the correct voltage, but the existence of improved models such as THIS make me think I can run out the math and improve it myself.

Anyone ever done this? The magnet wire isn't that expensive and from looking at how the factory has wound it, there is definitely some room for improvement.

Stators are so easy to replace in these (or at least in my 450) and I don't ride that far from home with it, that I would never consider replacing a stator before failure. But there's nothing wrong with experimenting and maybe having an extra on hand. Stop at a junk yard and pick up an extra to play with.
