I am wondering if a 71 CB seat and tank will fit on a 71 CL, I understand that the CL and CB use different seats and tanks, is that because they mount differently?

Any 5-speed tank and seat will work, but only as a combo - and taking the seat hinges into consideration.

The CL tank is shorter than a CB, but the CL seat is longer than a CB.
You can use a CL tank and a CB seat, but there will be an unsightly gap.
