I need to fab some brackets and a seat pan and I'm stuck wondering where I can buy steel? I guessing Home depot, Lowes won't carry what I want, any suggestions? -Don

I think you need to find a steel yard or metal retailer. Most have steel in their name. Even here, in the middle of nowhere, we have a couple and they will have all sizes and types and ours will cut to your specs.

I get mine as FREE scraps at the local welding and sheetmetal (fabrication) shops.......

I'll second what Steve says. Ask around at local places for their scrap. Many will just give it to you, especially smaller peices as it's not worth their time to charge for them. Scrapyards, welding shops, factories, farm equipment places, etc.. To name just a few.

My factory lets local artists scrounge through our dumpsters for various metal scraps. They love the pre-cut shapes that they can play with for free.
