will air leaking between air filter and carb cause an air leak?
insulator to engine air leak?
intake manifold to insulator?
cap above throttle valve?
can air leaking around throttle cable cause an air leak?
any where else to check?

Really, all the above but the smaller ones like around the cables, the carb tops and between the filters and the carbs (especially that one, would just make it run a little lean at higher revs) are less likely to be the issue. Seems I remember that the intake manifolds on the 175s can be tweaked by overtightening them at the studs on the head, causing them to bend at the ends and keep the center of the gasket area from sealing as well... been a very long time but I seem to remember that can happen. did you check the flatness of the gasket surface on the manifolds? Just a thought

All but the first one will be a vacuum leak that will affect the engines running. However, the first one could allow the engine to suck in dirt which is not good for an engine.
