Hey guys, my 66’ Scrambler is a Type 1 trying to find out what the history / lineage of the type … Can someone break this down for me? Why is it a type one? what’s a type two or is there and why? Thanks everyone-Scott

When I picture a 66 Type 1, this is what I see.

Type 1 stands for 180° crank, two sets of points. Type 2 means 360° crank, one set of points.

The CA77 or dream was a type two. I also once talked to a sidecar racer who took a Type two bottom end and rebuilt a cam from a type one and ended up with a twin carb torquey engine. the type two only came with a single carb.
I was riding my 73 CB350G at the time with a home made wooden box of a sidecar on it.

The 250-305 cams had a master spline on them that located them in the sprocket. You could grind off one spline on one cam so its timing could be reset for the 360° crank.
