I've been reading about alternate sources for exhaust parts. Apparently some of the Triumph crowd have been making up some pretty cool low-buck high pipe setups that predate the current Scrambler offerings.

One of the tricks used was to use old Air-Cooled VW heater box bypass 'J-Pipes' they come in a few sizes down to 1-3/8 (I figure that's the OD, can't seem to find it spelled out plainly though)

There was a reference included that this was a trick from the old days that the Honda Twins guys used to use.
Does anyone know anything about this?

Looking back at the Triumph forum I guess it was just the vw exhaust tips they were talking about. Apparently that stock Triumph Scrambler muffler weighs 17lbs!

I may have found the j-pipes on one of their links and ran with it in error. I'll bet the j-pipes would be a good starting point to build some high pipes if they can be had cheaply.
