I was wondering if anyone had any advice, techniques or recommendations on lapping valves. I have a '73 450 engine that had about 8,000 miles, but the engine has been sitting for about 17 years. The faces have some moderate pitting, and one place on the right exhaust that looks bad, probably had some leak by.
I have never done this, but the guides look good, and I have basic tools and lapping compound.

Thanks in Advance

I'd suggest taking it ot a machine shop at least for evaluation. It sounds like what you have is going to require more than just lapping.

If the seats are not rotted beyond limits, you have to cut them with valve seat cutters.
31º then 60º then 45º in that order.
