Hi all,

I'm new to the forum, and to restoring and building bikes.
I’m in the process of restoring a '70 CB450. I’m disassembling the engine, and am having trouble removing the lock nut in the oil pump. I made sure that slotted washer behind the nut had no tabs in the way, and I’m using the “special” slotted socket, but the nut won’t budge. Any ideas? Would heat work? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

jp

I assume you mean the oil filter...... Sometimes more than one tab is engaged..... It does take a bit of force, so wedge the crankshaft and put some torque into it.... An impact driver helps....

Yes. I'm removing the filter housing. I know that there's no tabs in the way (I looked through a Magnifying Glass). I'll take your advise, and and put a wedge between the gears and use more force. I didn't think this nut would be so stubborn. Thanks.
