does anyone make steel plates for motorcycle jackets? or even carbon fiber plates?? alpine stars pads are extremly bulky and i dont know how well they work when you fall. but i was just wondering.

Steel plates??? Can you be more specific as to where you're looking for additional protection?

If you're not a knee dragger, steel will do little good and could actually become your worst nightmare up high. Think falling on a knife and you have the idea. CE approved armor dissipates the energy of the impact and then the outer layer protects against abrasion. If you're wearing competition leather it will likely protect you so well that it doesn't need to be replaced. Textile is a different story. Your results may vary though I recommend keeping the rubber side down.
