Hi all,

I'm getting closer to completing the resurrection of my 450 K1. I replaced the starter motor yesterday and thought the chain looked a bit slack. I didn't take any note of it when dismantling - lesson for future!

The slack shown at the lower midpoint is about 17.5mm (11/16"). I can't find any specification for this so if anyone can help I'd much appreciate it.

Run the starter and see if the chain hits anything while it goes around. Mine was hitting the top and bottom of the case, resulting in a bad rattling noise and inconsistent tension on the starter clutch. I replaced mine with a NOS chain which helped, but the difference in overall length was negligible.

Starter pulls from the top of the chain, slack is pulled out mostly once the starter is engaged. Since its only used occasionally and not all the time like the drive chain for the rear wheel as long as it does not rub too much on the case I would not worry about it.

I've never replaced one for that amount of slack.
