When I accelerate the speedometer needle bounces between a LOT of digits unless I hold the speed constant. I know this is an issue with improperly lubed speedo cable. Is the fix for this to simply squirt some oil into the speedometer cable?

A broken or kinked cable, "junk" in the drive gearing inside the wheel, and rust inside the "cup" within the meter itself could all be the culprit..... Process of elimination....

I pull the cable out from the top. Inspect the cable. If it seems ok then I fill the upper nut with white lithium grease and work the cable through the grease back into the casing. If I run out of grease then I refill the nut. Before I attach the nut I spin the speedo to see if it feels smooth. Slick50 also seems to work well.

Just how I do it.
