Hello All::

I'm wanting to connect the Sparck Moto single phase regulator to my CM185T.

It came wired with the OEM type connector on the 4 "main wires" and a single black wire with a male bullet type connector.

Where does the black connect on this install?

I appreciate your help.

Hey STR3SS
I thought you were asking about the yellow & white wire connection discussed on the "Cheap reg/rectifier upgrade" thread.

What you are asking here is different and has been addressed numerous times in the "Cheap reg/rectifier upgrade" thread.

It appears you have two options with the black wire.

Unless you've changed it, the CM 185T "Twinstar" has a 6 Volt system...
AFAIK, The "SparckMoto" unit is for 12V system regulation......
The rectifier "half" will function properly, but you will never get to the 14+ volts to trigger the regulator, and could "cook" a 6V battery

@66Sprint You're right. The CM185T is 6v I've changed it, or changing it that's my current quest. 12v. My love for vintage ends at old electrics.

@JP_Dodge_N_Burn Thanks. I was having trouble sorting through all the discussions. So, I'm seeing this comment from Mydlyfkryzis... in which he says...

The infamous black wire: you have 2 choices. You can hook this to the black wire that is going to the original regulator on the bike (the original regulator had three wires, yellow, black and green). this is a switched 12V from the ignition switch. The other option is to just tie the Black and Red wire on the new regulator together and then connect to the bikes red wire.

So, if reading this correctly, I can connect the Red/Black wires on the Sparck Moto unit and plug into harness?? As such??

you are reading that right. I hooked mine to the black wire. Since it is the "sense" wire, my black wire has a slight voltage drop, and causes my regulator to control to 14.2 volts instead of 13.8 volts if connected to the red wire. I am running a conventional battery, so I like the slightly higher voltage for it.

Bu either will work fine.

Thanks for confirming! Hope this helps someone else too!
It has, thanks. True it's been covered, and I've read the whole Reg/Rec thread before a while ago, but there's a LOT there to remember there & this particular morsel is the nugget I needed. Also hats off to Mydlyfkryzis once again for being a good sport, albeit over & over. As someone still new to all this (90 miles deep), it's appreciated :)
