Hi, my engine is a wee bit smokey when running. Would I presume it's the valve stem oil seals?or rings. No idea what mileage it's done and have only just got it started . Puffs of black smoke comes out of exhausts when revved.
I did try to get the head off, but there was 2 bolts that wouldn't loosen. I didn't want to snap them. It was the 2 most inner what are the beggers. 450 nighthawk engine btw.

Did you loosen/remove all the other head bolts? If the 2 problem ones are front center then you can shoot some penetrating oil in those. They run thru the cylinder and are partially exposed. Do that and let it sit, then try tightening the bolt a bit before loosening. When removing if the bolt jams up stop, spray penetrating oil down the bolt and the turn the bolt back in a couple of turns and let it sit awhile before trying to remove again.
NOTE: Black smoke is unburnt fuel, grey lingering smoke is oil, whitish grey that dissipates quickly is water vapor
