Hi everyone! Just getting started on a new sl350 project. Kinda cool, it's got the original dealer sticker on the side cover (immediately cracked apart) and the same plate from 1985. Got it in the garage and started wrenching the best I could. No key so can't test if I have spark and can't get into the gas tank. Took off carbs, opened up the side cover to check out the internals, and started to try to take off the top end. Ordered all new cables, gaskets, pipes, side covers, chain, carb kit, and key. Will update once I get the key and can dive in a little deeper. Hoping to get it drivable within a month or so. Definitely going to need new tires and tubes. Definitely going to need a lot of work but we'll see where we get

Another update on the project! Starting to get some parts in and making progress slowly. Had a decent night of wrenching last night and more to come soon. Changing out the bars for something more flat and had a hell of a time pulling out the wiring harness. Added quite a bit oil to loosen things up and pulled with a pair of needle nose pliers. That did the trick! Got a great tank off a cb360 coming, picture added. Cables all showed up and added some marvel mystery oil to the case and cylinders to get things sloshed up a bit. Good night of wrenching especially with some John Lee hooker playing in the background. Spending the day with the lady today and more wrenching tomorrow. Just got my keys and a few other things in the mail so I'll be able to check if I have spark tomorrow and do some diagnostics. After that, just waiting on carb kits and I'll be able to see if she wants to fire up!

Never heard of a moroni v twin. You'll have to educate me a bit. Pretty sure the bike shop is out of business though but super cool it still has the sticker! Side panel completely fell apart when removed, but I've thought about dremeling out the sticker and adding it to the new panels I have coming. Bike seems to have been sitting for quite a while though. Seems like almost everything is original (even the air filter foam which crumbled right off) but the important stuff is fairly well intact which is nice. Replacing a few things like ignition coils, switches, etc even though they work. I reckon the parts are cheap enough and would rather not have to deal with small things breaking down 30 miles from home. Definitely thought about honing and throwing new pistons and rings (especially since the bike had no pipes when I bought it) but I was able to get a look at the cylinders and there's no rust and things look pretty clean (surprisingly). You can even see clean, defined cross hatching. My plan of attack right now is make sure my valve clearance is within spec and see how she runs. If the bike smokes a lot or is burning a lot of oil, time for a new top end. Compression feels really good too so I'm feeling optimistic for once haha. Should have all the parts I need to get it running here within the next few days so hopefully will post another update soon!

Had a productive evening on the bike but still waiting on damn parts! Hate when you can see that the last few things you're waiting for have been sitting at the post office doing nothing for the past week, just a few miles away. Anyways, did some essentials last night. Set valve clearance, points gap, timing, cam shain tension, put the clutch action/ sprocket cover back together, and siliconed

the gauges so they sit a little better (rubber was all worn out). Waiting on my carb kit still and some wintergreen oil. Heard you can mix rubbing alcohol and wintergreen oil and it'll revitalize some of the old hardened rubber. Figured it's worth a shot. Even though I have spark, I also bought some new ignition coils as the plug boot and wires are a bit old and dry rotted. Also bought a tank from a guy off eBay for a cb360 and lucky for me it had a few pinholes in it, yay! Have both that tank and the original tank for the bike sitting in a vinegar salt solution for a few days to get rid of the rust and then going to seal them in something like red coat. Hopefully get the essentials in the mail I need to get things fired up here soon. If so, will hopefully get the bad Larry running by the end of weekend!

Motor Morini, Italian v twin 350 with belt driven cams...

Just spotted, honda Davidson, bet your popular in places eh.

Valves stuck/sticky, a bit reluctant to move ?

Enjoy
Haha yeah my roommate got a few of those stickers. Currently in the process of purifying our garage of anything that isn't a honda. I'll try to snap a picture here soon. Anyways, surprisingly no, valves move easily. And I found it really strange, but the cylinders walls look like they've been freshly honed and crosshatching is super visible. Bike seems all original and hasn't been touched in a while and the odometer reads16,000 miles. Guessing there must have been top end work done somewhat recently? No other guesses and can't imagine cross hatching would still be visible after 16 k.

Today should be the day! All the final pieces of the puzzle are out for delivery. Installed new ignition coils, have strong spark. Reinstalled the gauges, all lights working, exhaust pipes on but no mufflers yet (just ordered). Wiring all fixed up, new headlight and bucket. Even took the high beam indicator light out of the old bucket and installed into the new one. Handle bars back on, need to add gas to the tank, put the carb kits together, and we'll be chooching tonight, fingers crossed!

Strongly visible cross hatching, valves not stuck, any signs of it being apart recently ish ?

Rebore perhaps ?

Oil filter cleaned and oil changed, a running in gentle start and run then by the sound of things.

Mains powered fans.....

Fingers crossed a hassle free and really enjoyable ownership coming.

Clutch free or stuck ?

Have real fun dude.

Engine looks like it hasn't been touched in a while so I'm just scratching my head a bit. Could have been a rebore somewhat recently? All the ethanol was gummed up all over the engine (guess the seals inside the petcock broke down) and seemed pretty old. Filled the crank with mystery oil for about a week and made sure to mix things around a bit. Emptied the oil, added new side cover gasket, cleaned the oil filter out, and fresh 15-40 t5 shell rotella. Haven't checked on the clutch yet but have a new cable installed, just need to hook it out the clutch lever, but a new lever is coming in the mail. Definitely not gonna get to ride it anytime soon but will hopefully be able to hear her roar. -20 this morning in Bozeman,Mt and about 12" of new snow

A bit too cold for riding but not too cold for running. Got her chooching with ease! I'll try to attach a video. Have to wait for mufflers to come in then I'm gonna experiment with baffling a bit but hopefully won't be too difficult

Well had a few 40 degree days for test runs and boy does she go! Carbs are synced and I have to admit, easier than what I've heard/expected! Have done a bit of ordering of parts here and there but have been pretty focused on getting the exhaust setup. Got some torpedo style mufflers from voodoo and had a muffler shop custom bend me connections from the pipes to the mufflers. Just got them welded up last night. Bought some baffles, and although they help quite a bit, I bought some fiberglass matting to add in addition. Heard a nice little trick is to use masking take to compress it enough to get it into the tubes, and it should burn off from heat causing it to expand to fill the extra space and quiet things down. Hopefully will do the trick cuz it is loud as can be. We all love a loud bike I reckon (but when is too loud too loud?). Running with the stock tank for now as the tank I bought is a little longer. My plan of attack is to fit the new tank at the same time that I I fit the new seat. Been in contact with foam factory to get an idea for what combo of foam I want to use for the seat. Really nice and helpful people and the foam seems great! I'm sure I've done plenty of other things, just terrible at taking photos and marking my progress as I go. Also, added a nice pic of my buddy riding cuz who'd be foolish enough and want to test ride their own bike! Hope y'all enjoy!
