Im creating a new wire harness for my sl350 project and running into a few problems. One is that I can only get the wire (either the speedo/headlight/tailight) that is plugged in next to the battery wire in the ignition switch connector to work. They all work, but never altogether, only when I move each wire one by one next to the wire hooked up to the fuse/battery. Any ideas?

Im running a replacement headlight, replacement ignition switch, aftermarket tailight, and aftermarket speedo FYI

First thing is to sort out what each position on the ignition switch actually does. it probably doesn't function the same as the original.

I think I got it...With the key in the first position I have no lights until I hit the headlight switch, then I get headlight, speedo and tailight...and in the second key position I get just the tailight. Does this sound about right?

Yes, sounds correct....second position is "park" and ONLY powers the taillight.....
