I've gone through 2 manuals (Honda's own and Chilton's) looking for service data on the cam chains for these bikes, but I'm not turning up anything. I've got specs for just about every other internal part, but for the life of me I can't find any measurements for the cam chain.

The best guide I've got right now is that the bike did less than 8,000 miles before being left stood (for what looks like a very long time). It's still fully flexible and there was oil (and no water) in the engine when I got the bike, so I'm guessing it's probably fine to continue using. But I'd like to be able to measure it up if only to be on the safe side.

Any ideas out there?

Thanks

I'd say, if you can still adjust the tensioner, and get rid of the "rattling" noise, the chain is still good.

If you adjust the tensioner, and you still hear a loose, noisy, ticking chain, then it's time for a new chain.

Could also be that the tensioner is sticking and doesn't put enough force on the chain to tension it.

Just my thoughts, take them for what they are.
