Okay, so I have a question or two about the side covers. So my motorcycle has a white gas tank with white air boxes and I like the look of it. When I bought the bike, PO had 2 red side covers in his box of stuff that came with it. So my first question is, are the side covers necessary to get proper air to the carbs? And then, if they're not necessary, would you guys suggest painting the red side covers white and putting them on? (I will paint and put them on if they are necessary.

They help to keep water out of the air boxes on some models, but on others they are mostly just for looks.
