On my days off I polished the left engine cover, and swingarm covers/sets. The engine cover was heavily oxidized, had old clear coat, etc. I used progressively finer sand paper while finished with cutting compounds and Mother Polish: 320, 600, 1000, 2000, brown cutting compound, white cutting compound, and Mothers. The engine cover took me 8 hours (the first 5 being with the 320 grit, getting all the old gunk off) while the swingbar covers took just 1 hour. They turned out pretty nice IMO!
Before & After. The only thing decent on this bike when I got it was the paint. At least it was ~98% intact.
Frame-up restored. What killed me on this one was having to replace the rims and spokes. That was not anticipated.
Hey, here is my before and after pics. Completely restored, painted and polished. Only things I didn't touch are choke cable, chain and sprokets and engine internals. It was osidized a lot for being left otside.
