Should I remove my Electric Starter?

Hello Friends,

I'm working on my first project bike, a CB450 K3 going cafe style. I was planning on leaving my electric starter on, but now that I've taken things apart, I can't help but think that this thing is damn heavy. In your experience, is it worth loosing the weight and forcing myself to kick-start for every ride?

Thanks for your opinions!

While between the starter motor itself, the solenoid, the smaller battery that could now be necessary, plus removal of starter clutch, chain, and sprockets you can lose a good amount of weight, unless it is strictly a race bike, I recommend you keep the e-starter....... JMHO

If weight reduction is a goal and you don't mind holding up traffic when you stall at a busy stop light, then by all means dump the e-starter. Other oppertunities for weight reduction are: going to alloy fenders and an after market exhaust. Keep us posted.
