I shipped a Honda VT1100 engine (300 pounds) from Pennsylvania to Alabama a few months ago.
It cost only $75 because I had it sent on a pallet by Motor Freight to a local freight depot.

That is good to know. There has to be a better way to ship heavy stuff that UPS.
How did you strap the motor to the pallet???

I use the local NAPA store, they get freight every morning, there's a small forklift there for the heavy stuff.

I suppose the rate depends on your local freight company. Sending/receiving from a local business address is cheaper and less hassle than from your doorstep.

Yeah, business to business is the way to go. I've used Mountain Valley Express in California, but I like the local Napa Auto Parts store! I got a differential shipped in the belly of a Greyhound bus, once. If it weren't for have to go into a skanky bus depot, it wouldn't have been so bad ;)
