I have a head gasket (Vesrah) that I am about to install. My question is if I should use a gasket sealant on it. I bought some Hi-Temp Permatex Copper Spay-A-Gasket, but one of the manuals, (Hynes) said to install dry. My other two (Honda and Clymer) do not mention a sealant at all. Any thoughts? Thanks

No gasket sealant at all on head gaskets.

In fact, generally I use no gasket sealant at all on ANY gaskets. Only a slight dab of grease on some gaskets to hold 'em in place until the cover or whatever can be installed.

I was advised years ago by a mechanic in the Fast by Feracci camp to use the permatex coper stuff on head gaskets and I have been using it on everything ever since...don't know if it really helps or not but 15 years of using it on race and street motors without a leak is good enough for me...OK I did have some leaks from stretched head bolts on two overly built motors but I'm not counting those two.
