I just picked up a bike with 8,000 miles on it and it with original mufflers, but are in great shape, they are loud a common problem. In the far back underneath where the silencer tip would be both my mufflers were rotted below, not the chrome pipe itself but the flange holding the silencer cone in, making the sound very loud. I bought this exhaust insulating wrap comes in a roll basically it's like thick cloth but it won't burn up with high temperatures and I twisted it almost in a rope form and with a screwdriver pushed it all around the silencer stuffing it all inside. It won't come out because the curled lip of the Chrome Muffler keeps it in and then I sprayed it black and my Mufflers sound absolutely like new and you wouldn't know if you didn't know what the mufflers should look like. Hope this helps somebody else
