1981 CM400C

Dragged it home last week.

Spent a couple hours this morning.....

Found a valve core and aired up the tires. Put some air in the forks too.

Changed oil and filter. Adjusted cam chain tensioner.

Pulled the carbs and washed them out good enough for now. Put back on.

Hooked up fuel test tank. Turned fuel on and wired ignition. Pulled choke and tapped solenoid wire.

Started right up. Push choke and fiddle with idle a bit. Runs sweet.

Connected voltmeter. 12.5v at idle(no lights) 13.6v revved up some(no tach). Shut off and unhook meter. Call charging system ok.

Find something to sit on.

Start back up and ride down the road. Shift through all gears and back down. Turn around and ride back. Park it and snap a pic.

Now what?

PO says that engine was 'gone through'... whatever that means. Doesn't seem to leak. Has a green(Athena?) cylinder base gasket. Looks squeaky clean inside(valve cover off, slotted clutch cover plug removed).

Ratty seat. Hacked fenders. Bent bars. No tank, side covers, lights, gauges, title. Front brakes inop(rotten master cyl.).

Hmm.

Won't fit!... The cylinders would have to go through the main backbone ..... None-the-less, it CAN be cut down to mini size as my 175 "bobber" demonstrates.....
Side-by side of "bobber" and stock 175 frame......

And another view....

Or cut away, then "trellis" the frame around the head (ala Ducati )..... :D ;)
Tough to do on the pressed/stamped metal frames though..... (been there)....
