Well 2 years after the bike I built came back to me I dragged the cover off it and took a look at it. The bike is for sale but with no takers I figured maybe it would be more sellable if i could get it running. The PO had dropped the bike and broken the petcock and the fuel filter on the drivers side, taken all the fuel lines of and lost interest. Seeing as the only replacement petcock i could find had only one outlet, re plumbing would have been needed anyway.
Thankfully when the bike came back i drained the tank and carbs; they were fairly clean over all. An hour of messing about with fuel line and they were reconnected. Put the tank on and a gallon of gas in and the right carb looked ok but the right was leaking like a stream of pee. Of course its the one behind those scrambler pipes i had to have. Still it came off easy and the problem was easy. A piece of crud had lodged behind the float. Carb cleaned it out and she holds level.
Having solved the fuel issue i intend to move on to spark as soon as i can afford a new battery.
The main issue that caused me to park it remains: the shifter doesnt return to center. This makes shifting difficult. Somewhere in the macine is a spring that is sprung, and i assume its going to be a drag to get too.
