I purchased replacement rings from my Honda dealer, and instead of three rings I have 5. I think two are straight replacement and I think the set of 3 (2 very thin and one serrated looking thing) are the oil sweeper ring replacement.

Here's my question: the manual says to install them so that the manufacturer's mark faces up. I see no manufacturer's mark on any of the rings. They all look the same to me. Does it matter which way they go? The manual warns that incorrect installation will lead to "oil pumping".

Thanks

You are correct, in that the bottom (oil) ring is the 3-ring affair.
You still see them these days.

There are marks on the others, they're very small - near the gap, look hard. The marks (letters) face up.

The other two have a slightly different "profile" - the top ring has a sort of a beveled shoulder to it, while the middle ring has a sort of undercut edge to it.
Again, the difference is hard to detect sometimes.
