I want to replace my headlight with a brighter halogen bulb. I've already converted my other lights to LEDs, including the gauge bulbs. I bought a new headlight, but it doesn't fit. Does anybody know what size replacement bulb to get. It isn't a 7 incher. The diameter of the current one, the bulb itself, measures around 6 inches. I'd like one with a replaceable element, but a sealed one would be fine. Any suggestions?

Sorry, I was using View New Posts, didn't notice the Forum it was in.

The K5 would use the larger, later style headlamp, along with chrome fork ears.....
It should be 7".

Obviously it's not, as you said you measured it.
I just went out to the shop (Brrrr...) and measured 3 different "flavors" of Honda headlamps I have lying about.
One measured 7" ('74 CB450 K7), another was 5-3/4" ('70 CB450 K3), the third was about 6-3/4".
I don't know what machine the third one came off of, but it was definitely smaller than the "normal" 7-incher we see.

I don't know if any of this will help or not, those are just the parts I have lying about.

I have several different size globes that take the H-4 halogens.... I'll need an EXACT outer diameter.........

Hah! It never seems to amaze me how dumb I am. The bulb is a 5 3/4. I was measuring it in the housing. The retaining ring behind it is shiny and I thought it was part of the bulb, which is my I measured 6 inches. I guess any of the 5 3/4 bulbs on sleezebay will do. I haven't seen any that size in any auto parts stores and I'm not going to the dealer.

On a side note, I figured out why my turn signal indicator wasn't working for the right side. As I mentioned, I replaced all of my gauge bulbs with LED bulbs. Well, LEDs are diodes which only allow current to flow in one direction. On the gauges with only one light for both turn signals, the current actually flows one way or the other depending on which signal is on. I put the regular bulb back in and it works fine.

You'll need to solder in a NO LOAD flasher specifically meant for LED lights. I did that to my DRZ and it worked flawlessly.

I have one. I was speaking specifically about the idiot light on the tachometer that tells you your blinkers are on.

One thing that might be noted here, the there are some parts that are slightly different between the CB450 AND the CL450. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is one of those times. The (original) headlight on the CB models are larger than on the CLs, are they not? :?: Just thought I should throw that in, to help identify the part.

But I think CL K5's also had the chrome fork ears, which would indicate the larger headlamp.
They were not only chrome, but had a wider "offset", to accomodate the larger headlamp.

But as always, I could be wrong.....

Who knows - can't really tell from the photo.
The PO of my last 450 wanted the larger headlamp, so he just bent the painted fork ears outwards to accomodate it.
Completely ruined the fork ears of course, and looked just awful.

Incidentally, Flug -

I recall you said your bike was a K5 ???
If those are the original air cleaner covers, and the fork ears are not chrome, then that's not a K5.
A K5 VIN should start CB (or CL) 5XXXXXX

The fork covers are chrome but I don't know if they are original. I do know the air cleaner covers are NOT original. The serial number on the frame says it is a K5.
