Hey Guys.

I'm trying to take out the starter clutch to rebuild it, but the first thing you have to do is to remove the rotor setting bolt. The Honda manual says "remove rotor setting bolt" and that's it. The problem with that is that the whole assembly turns when I try to turn the bolt.

Does anyone have any idea how to get the starter clutch to stop spinning so I can get the bolt loose?

thanks for the help.

Try putting it in gear and standing on the rear brake.
Alternately, if you have the clutch cover off, jam a penny into the gears that mesh he crankshaft with the clutch outer.
Or an air impact will probably knock it loose.

this idea would work if the bolt turns to the right to loosen. When I turn it to the left only the starter clutch spins, the other gears don't move. When turning to the right, though, everything moves. So I need to know which way the bolt has to be turned to loosen it.

Anyone know?

CCW....The crank is turning, and the bike has to be IN GEAR (so the transmission locks it from the applied rear brake through the clutch.....)
