I paid a local shop to do some top end work on my CB360. They installed the cam chain tensioner wrong (prove it amirite?!) The tensioner snapped both the metal tabs on top and bottom off and are currently floating around in my engine. I'll be rebuilding the engine myself this time, but I'm curious if I need to replace the piston rings that only have a few hundred miles on them.

Well, I guess it depends on whether or not you want to trust their work in that area after seeing how they bungled the cam chain tensioner... rings are rings, but we see all the time that the simplest of general mechanical things on these vintage bikes can be mucked up very badly when in the wrong hands. If it were mine, I'd probably pull the entire top end off to ensure they did everything the way it should be, including excess gasket sealant that could come back to haunt you later in blocked oil passages

I have rebuilt several "rebuilt" engines. You can reuse the rings, but I would inspect every part first.

To find the metal chunks, I'm guessing I'll have to split the case so i'll be looking everything over and cleaning. I rebuilt once, a year ago, and I've had nothing but top end issues since. I've paid 2 shops to do the top end work and both shops have screwed it up.

Did you use RTV Silicone when you rebuilt it? That stuff causes all kinds of problems, especially top end problems.
