When I put the bike together I noticed a small leak behind the points and at the head gasket at the back of the engine. Just enough to get on the fins and checking oil before and after every ride it was always at the high marker. Engine oil changed every 1K miles.

4000 miles later it seems the same amount of loss.

Better to live with it or pull the engine over the winter and get down to the head gasket? Id rather not break something in the engine and live with the leak.

What do the experts advise?

I'm assuming you talking about your 350. Are you talking about the head gasket or the cam case? Have you tried re-torquing the head?

I would second loosen the head and then retorque.

Sorry, yes the 350. So just loosen them all and re torque as per the manual?

Have you started to notice rubber bits in your oil or slinger? If so then it's worth the effort to pull and rebuild. Or, if you have time and don't mind the project then can't hurt? You should go down to the base gasket and replace the cam tensioner rollers and new rings. Retorque won't solve the points cover leak.
