Project: CB160 New odds and ends...

I've owned many bikes in my 30 some years, but this is my first complete restoration. Its a 1966 CB160 with 7400 miles.

A guy I work with had it sitting in his barn for the last 27 years. I was telling him how I was looking for a project and he said he had just the bike for me! He was only the second owner, and had the bike since '69. The original owner painted it, had ape hanger bars on it and had mutilated the oringinal seat for a "custom" look, hence the non-original parts.

Apparently the starter went out (what exactly happened i don't know, as the chain and sprocket are both m.i.a.) followed by the kicker shaft stripping out. He lost interest and bought a bigger bike, and the lil Honda found a new home in the barn with his sheep.

When I came to the rescue the bike was under a pile of boxes and tools and various farm implement parts, and of course, 27 years worth of barn dust! You can see where I had to scratch through the dirt to see the odometer. It was 99% complete, and he claimed it ran great when he parked it, so two $100 bills later we were throwing it in the back of my pick-up.

Rearsets look real nice! Just looking at the MotoBits site and they have a set for the CB350, Mmmmm. How did you find the fit for your bike? Any issues? How was the brake linkage?

These are very high quality and should bolt right up in an hour or so. As you can see in the pics, there are multiple mounting holes for every component for a set-up that fits you. The only issue I had was with the lower mount on the right side. The mount on my frame (muffler mount I think) was a little tweaked from a past spill, so I had to improvise a little. That, and they were set up for a different brake cable end which was easy enough to remedy. I was even able to use my kick starter, (the instructions said I wouldn't, as these are for racing) once I trimmed an eigth inch off of the brake peg.

Excellent, thanks for the reply. I'm definitely going to keep them in mind for my 350.
The locknut on your swingarm pivot bolt doesn't have nearly enough threads going into the locking "fingers" on the nut. I'd be removing that nut and using some loctite on it asap..

Yep, it's got loctite. ;)
Good to hear. That's one bolt you don't want coming loose on you..

I found these babies on ebay. Just the unique look I was searching for. They're some sort of old aftermarket racing pipes i've never seen before. A ding on the right pipe, plenty of rust at the headers, and some road rash at the tail end of the left pipe, so I figured i'd slash cut and wrap 'em.

...and after.

I have to say i'm very pleased with the end result. I've never been a "pipe wrap" kinda guy, but for this application I really like the look. Plus, my left leg is gonna be right on that pipe, so it's functional, too!

Oh, and they sound bad-ass!!
