I am having a problem with the ignition section of the wiring. Bike is an SL350 k-2, new points, condensor, and coils. When testing for power in the order of connecting the wiring power to coil is good, connections to coil/condensor is good, but when connecting the two point wires one side maintains power but the other shows no power. The connector has power until the points wire is connected and then shows no power. Thanks - dave

What method are you using to check for power?
Are you getting spark?

Just using a test light to check for power at each connection, both connectors to the for the points wires have power, one maintains power when the points lead is connected, the other connector does not light the tester when the points wire is connected.

Might want to bust out the multimeter and check resistance on your points. If it tests good, then maybe it's the connector terminal? Or you plugged something into the ground instead of power?

Edit: you can try to swap wires and see if the problem stays or swaps

When you connect the coil/condenser wire to the points, you will read voltage if that set of points is open. You will read zero voltage if that set of points is closed since they are grounding that circuit.

Okay, I will check the points, hopefully that is it, will be back if not.

Located the problem. I took off the points plate and replaced it with another old spare and power was good. I then looked at both points plates and found that I had one of the little brown fiber washers on the points bolt connection from the points wire to the points in the wrong position, put it in the correct spot and now have power to both wires. Thanks for all the input, just sorry I hadn't spotted this before posting. dave
