Still new to the forum. And to these bikes. I have a k0 cl350 that I have been working on for the past year and a half. I am close to being able to ride it, but I keep running into little problems that keeps me from being able to move forward.

I don't think this bike has run in the past 30 years, it wasn't running when I got it. Anywho, I have everything back together and just replaced the cam chain and tensioner with the chain and KA slipper from bore-tech. My issue came after I got my ignition timing set. Everything is timed great and without the cover on the points assembly both sides had spark, but after installing the points cover, I lost spark on the right side.

I discovered that my points were being grounded on the cover when it was installed. The dimple in the cover doesn't seem to want to give the points enough room.

I just wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions with how to get around this. I went ahead and put some electrical tape on the inside of the cover to see if fixed the problem and it did.

So here are my questions. Is my timing just off and I should try to set it again (I did try this already with no success, but if it is messed up I am willing to do it again)? Since I am pretty sure it is grounding on the inside of the cover can I just get some insulating spray and coat the inside of my cover (or a similar solution)?

You could move the wire terminal to the opposite side of the anchor point on the points(under the nut).

Have you tried re-arranging your point wire terminals to the opposite side of the terminal? I mean so the terminal is facing toward the points cam rather than the cover. I've seen some members use an extra thick or just an extra gasket to move the cover out away from the head.

Thanks guys for the quick response.

I actually thought of that right after I posted this. It worked great.

right now it is hooked up the same except I moved the right side wire around the terminal so it is in contact with the curvy metal piece (like my terminology?) on the opposite side.

I think next time I am working on it I will switch it to the opposite side of the terminal (next to the nut) if that works out.

your points plate is rather far advanced where you have it set.

does it spark at the LF mark set like that?

I see several aftermarket fasteners in there. are your points screws sticking out the back of the points plate and interfering with the advancer?

does the timing advance and retard smoothly? checked with a strobe?
