I noticed that there is oil between the outer and inner sleeve of the ignition coil wires. The outer sleeve is dry and hard, breaking away from the inner sleeve. Probably a really old ignition wire. Is this normal and can I just replace the wire or also need to replace the coils too? The spark plug ends are dry and black so that needs to be addressed also.

Unscrew the plug boot, pull off the outer sleeve, clean, and reinstall sleeve and boot. You didn’t say what bike, but most of the older twins have plug wires that are molded in to the coils, not easily replaceable. You can dremmel out the old wire where it enters the coil, replace the wire, then jb weld it back together.

Thanks middletons. It’s a 73 CB350 K4, should be in my sig. Any thoughts on why oil is in there? Are the sleeves sold separately? Can’t see to locate them on common motor or 4into1
