Welcome aboard Ben, we're glad to have you! From another K7 owner.. ;) That's a pretty decent looking bike from what I can see..

That said, I figured I'd offer you a starting tip real quick.

Run some fuel lines from the petcock down into a catch can, leave the petcock off overnight and see if any fuel flows when off. This alone may save your engine. Also verify proper fuel flow when turned on and that the petcock/tank is clean. In-line fuel filters are used by many as well. Try to ALWAYS remember to shut off your petcock when parking the bike too. In case of a worn float needle valve, it'll keep fuel from entering your engine IF your petcock is performing its duties..

Anything else pops up on you, then ask away.

Thanks for the advice GB... I will definatley check that. I know the oil did smell like fuel when I got it. It had been sitting for several years. The petcock was clean but may have a slow leak.

See my post in tune ups for more problems, LOL

It's a twin, not a thumper. If you watch e-bay, you'll find that, while some 450s go higher (depends who's in the market for one at the moment), it isn't unusual for 450s in reasonable looking condition to go for about $500 (there's one that's been re-listed a few times - starting bid $3,000... fat chance he'll get that), and often quite a bit less if you're willing to go through the nuisance of obtaining a title for one without papers. It's a crap shoot how much pencil pushing and bureaucracy you'll have to suffer getting one, but if you have more time than money... I picked one up, in good shape and complete save for side covers for $70. I have it for a parts department, but I have the name and address of the last registered owner (sent frame number to Motor Vehicle to check if stolen & to get info on it) if I decide to put it on the road, but the motor's already gone into another frame and a lot of other parts have been used.
