I am 47 and have just bought my first bike. I am happily married (Well, relatively... My wife is none too happy about the bike) and a of 3 children (16, 13, 11). At present, I do not have a motorcycle license, but will do the written part (M1) soon. I plan to take a course to get my 'M2' in a few months. I am an elementary school principal. I am your typical academic, with no experience with machines. So, I was very excited to find this site. I intend to pick people's brains as much as possible!

Wow ! Welcome to motorcycling.
Please use protective riding gear, stay out of rush hour, and maybe stick around the neighborhoods for the first 100,000 miles.

Thanks Everyone!

I'm very excited to have a bike. I have been asking so many questions on this site, some others, in bike shops, etc. One thing that I have found amazing is how open and welcoming everyone is. It seems that even sales people in bike shops are genuinely excited about bikes and want to share information. And this website is AMAZING!

I would love to hear from anyone in southern Ontario.

As for safety, no need to worry. My wife is so hesitant about this project, I have had to make so many promises around safety, I need to figure how to ride in bubble wrap!

When you ride remember 2 things and 2 things only.

1.) Ride like no one can see you.

2.) The only person responsible to keep you safe is YOU!!!

We've already "talked" in the other discussions but welcome. :)

BTW I too am in my mid-40's with 3 kids and a wife who is just coming off the ceiling from my purchase. Welcome to that club as well.

True story - My profession is that of a pastor and just a couple of weeks ago my wife said, "Did you know that for the longest time when you would read the manual while watching TV it felt like you were reading porn?" Glad we are past that...

In a way, I think my wife would prefer I were into porn... Well, not really. But it took a long time to get past her fears. It didn't help that a friend of hers died on a bike in high school. So, I respect her concerns and make every effort to be cautious. I'm no danger demon, anyway. I'm just into a little bike to put around on.

Its been an itch left too long unscratched!

Had great success yesterday. Frustrated today. We have our spring break this week and with the weather in Ontario being completely and utterly UNBELIEVABLE for the time of year, I was hoping to get further than I have. But I have to remind myself to take one step at a time!

Hi Sean,

I am also from the area. I am currently finishing university in Oshawa and have also just purchased a 1980 CM400T. I am planning on making it a project bike and going through some similar issues to you. I just had the bike running for the first time in a few years, according to PO, and look forward to completing the build in the next few months.

I plan on making a project blog once I have time to do so, as right now I am busy finishing my 4th year projects and exams. If I come across anything I think will be helpful for your project I will let you know.

Best of luck with your project,

Gavin
