Hey everyone,

I ordered new carb boots as one of mine had split, causing a vacuum leak.

I got the new ones today and here's what the metal part at the base looks like, both are the same.

It looks like there's rubber that melted onto the metal during the manufacture process and now it's flaking off. Surely this can't be how they all come and I've received a defective pair?

I can see two issues with this: 1. the bumpiness will interfere with fuel flow and I won't be getting full power, 2) melted rubber flaking into the engine can't be good for it (I'm sure it would burn off but what if it re-solidifies in an oil passage...

Take a RAZOR Knife and cut off the excess.

It's just overflow from the molding process

I guess that's an option albeit an annoying one. It'll be a bit tricky avoiding removing aluminum too.

The o-ring is still in the package, hadn't bothered to take it out after seeing the excess rubber

Alright well that wasn't so hard, I guess that's what I should expect from non Honda parts.

Time to test them out on the bike

Update: running much nicer than before, just need to sync and tune once it stops raining outside
