I just purchased a new battery. The directions say that after leaving the battery charge if the level is down add distilled water to the battery. Since I have some electrolyte left, why not add that?

The battery is an electro-chemical reaction..... Like ANY recipe, it requires just enough of the proper ingredients.... Only water evaporates away, so you only replace water.... Adding more acid (electrolite) is like adding too much salt to a cake...... ONLY use distilled water!.... spring or tap water contains minerals and metals that will also "ruin the recipe"...
