Lucky for me the package with the new cam chain roller arrived before the long weekend so I got to pay my penance for not paying attention during assembly (remember I found that chain roller in a box after I had the head back on.

It wasn’t that bad to take the head back off, remove 1 piston, install the roller and make a piston ring compressor and put it all back together. Next I need to stake the master link and reset the valve timing and finish up reassembling the motor.

So I thought I was finally on a break away, just a few more things to tidy up and the motor can go in the frame... WRONG... the shifter was not installed correctly and it consumed a lot of hours figuring out where I had gone wrong..

with that behind me I notice the countershaft is kind of notch..... great... so after loosing another 1/2 a day I decide to flip the motor over and see if I can figure out what the problem is.

Best I can tell is the gears must have been out of phase from where they spent the first 40 years of there life as I went over the shafts, gears and bearings and couldn’t find a thing wrong. Tomorrow I have one last peek before buttoning this up for good.

Some new and some used parts arrived yesterday so there’s now shortage of things to do, I finally treated myself to a 40 piece metric tap and die set

What I hope is the last order has gone in yesterday but it’s nothing that can hold me up. What I do need to find yet is a 7” headlight bucket and trim ring for a 70’s Honda and the 2 nuts that hold the side covers on. If anyone has these let me know plz

The front fender saga, 1 came with bike...the fender was cracked and rusted and someone before me thought they should weld the fender brace to the fender making it totally worthless.

So I bought a NOS replacment from eBay to find out it had a different fender brace than mine. Next I found a used fender that was cracked and rusted but had the right brace in decent shape. The die grinder made short work of the rivits, after getting rid of the rust and painting that area I opted to bolt the fender to the brace.... another seemingly simple task that took way to long to complete
