Okay, so I went for my first ride today over 40 mph with '74 cb200. Seems that there is no 4th gear-it's just not there. If I shift from 3rd to 4th, I get neutral. Shift up again, and its 5th gear. Shift down, neutral. Shift down again, its in 3rd. Any ideas?

Three possibilities, in my guess of order of likelyhood....
Detent star "pocket", pins, or wheel worn/burred, does not "drop and lock" all the way into gear
Shift drum burred, or fork wear/bent.....
Bad engagment dogs/wear on gears that mate for 4th....

Or any combination of the above.......

Thanks for the reply. Do you suppose that I might be able to determine which of the issues it is by removing the clutch cover and poking around?

If you remove the clutch cover, you'll be able to check the detent star, wheel, pins. Also, you'll be able to look at what's going on while you shift gears. It could help you figure it out. It helped me isolate the issue I had with mine. If the issue is with the shift drum, gears or dogs then you'll have to split the cases.
