Hello all. New to the forum, new-ish to bikes, ultra-new to wrenching and electrical work. I have a '74 CB 125 that I've upgraded it to 12v. I'm keeping all the stock parts, but just for fun I'm switching out some things to give it more of a "brat" look (with no irreversible modifications) - lower bars, flat seat, yellow headlight, yadda yadda.

One thing I'd like to do is slap this dual tail-light on:
https://www.treatland.tv/dual-round-tail-light-p/tail-light-round-license.htm

Each light has running light, brake light and ground wires. So what I think I need is something that acts like a switch so that when the turn signal is activated, it powers the switch which turns OFF the brake light on that side with each pulse. Sorry I don't know the proper terms for any of this!

Questions:
1. Is this possible?
2. Am I on the right track?
3. What is the electrical component I need to act as this "switch"?
or
4. Is there a different solution I should be looking into?

Thanks!

Use a 6 pole double throw(off in the middle) toggle switch and a pair of 5 pole relays. One half of the switch connects to the signals, flasher in the center and left/right wires to the outside terminals. The other side of the switch is used to trigger the two relays, one on the right side and one on the left. Wire the brake light power to terminal 87a(normally closed) and terminal 30(common). When you flip the switch to either side the relay on that side will be triggered and the brake light on that side will be shut off . Easy enough to do, the problem will be finding a neat way to mount the switch on the handlebar.

Just go to an auto parts store and pick up a taillight converter out of their towing/trailer section. It is about $20.00 and will do just want you want. It is for towing trailers that have single lights with cars/trucks that have separate brake and turn signal lights. I have used them on custom bikes before, makes the rear a lot cleaner.

Oh man that sounds super easy. Is this the sort of thing you mean? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0008G1NNY/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_0iU8Cb5WQGMX0 I assume I'll just clip off the trailer end and add the appropriate connectors there.

Thanks!

UPDATE: This one looks more appropriate: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001EP0GI6/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_YrU8CbBBZ8VWY

That may not work to keep the flasher going when the brake is applied, but it won't cost much to try.
