If you are patient, they will pop up on ebay fairly regularly. I just got a good unit with the headlight shell for $99. Sometimes they go for crazy prices, especially if the face isn't very faded.

The one on my bomber looks good but inside something must have seized, needles went crazy and there was a buzzing sound coming from the unit while driving..

Can't you open it up and see if it can be repaired? More than likely the needle is sticking from all that dirt and grease from all those years.
Check your cables also and make sure they are lubed and spin freely.

I had that problem on my old one. Was really old grease in there, consistency of almost glue.
